Availability of Automated Test Call Capability in VHF-DSC Radios. There is 
considerable interest in being able to test VHF-DSC radios with a new 
automated Test Call facility being retrofitted into all Rescue 21 sites. 
Since the standard (ITU 493-12) has only recently been developed, many 
older VHF-DSC radios will lack the capability. An informal survey of 
manufacturers indicated that most are planning to incorporate the test call 
capability in new models but that so far, none had a definitive plan to 
offer a software upgrade for older radios.
