T&T: Marfak 2HD/lithium soap grease for impeller

Anyone have knowledge about Marfak 2HD grease recommended by Perkins to 
pre-lubricate the impeller in my raw water pump?  From what I can find out, 
it is a lithium soap grease or comparable and was produced by Texaco years 
ago.  They also say you can use glycerin...is that a drug store item?
And then I heard you can just use soapy water to pre-lube.
