Jeff:
HP = 746 wattsB or about 3/4 KW.
Watts = Volts x Amps
This is true with both 12 v DC and 110/240 AC (single phase only)
So, for your 25 amps on the alternator:
14 volts (charging voltage)x 25 amps / .90 (efficiency of alternator and belt
drive) = 388 watts or about .5 hp (remember 1hp = 746 watts)
to see how many amps 1 shaft hp from yourB generatorB will provide:
amps= watts/volts
amps = 746/14 x .9
amps = 47
So there you go.
Arlid,
Are you comfortable with belt driving a 120 A / 12 vdc alternator side loaded
with a belt off ofB that Westerbeak?B IB was told that 1 KW was all I could
pull off of my Cat 3208s with a single belt - and that was a healthy belt with
good wrap.B How about bearing side load on the Westerbeak bearings.B What
say you wise one?
Wayne
