When I read posts about "old" diesel or special restorative additives, I'm
reminded about the posts of Pauk Kruse who, at one time, was in charge of
all diesel equipment at NASA from trucks to gantries. They had Gulf Coast
Filters on every diesel engine.
They'd send him to some obscure tracking station in a woe-be-gone corner of
the world to prepare the site to track a mission sent out on an unusual
orbit. He'd take some pumps and a godawful stack of GCF F-1's and many cases
of super Bounty paper towells (which I understand are now back on the
market.). They'd start filtering the "old" diesel stored in the tanks and
changing filters till it was clean again, start the engines and put the site
on line.
He once made a statement which I here paraphrase: If you have some fifthy,
cruddy old diesel you want to dispose of, bring your boat over to mine. I'll
pump it all off through my F-1 and burn it myself.
