< I see a lot of trawlers out there with 3/4" snubbers, or even double
3/4"
snubbers, often only about 10' long. Why bother? There's probably as
much
spring in 100' opf 3/8" chain as there is in two 3/4" snubbers of 10'
length. If the snubber you use never needs replacement, it's probably
too
large. >
The only reason I use my double 7/8"snubber is to transfer the load
onto my very large and very secure bow cleats from the clutch on my
windlass. I rarely have out less than 150 - 200' of chain and could
care less about "spring action". Safety and security are what I want
and the action of lifting the chain off the bottom is all the spring I
need.
