T&T: Anchor rode snubber line size

Why bother with a snubber? To take the load off the windlass.We use a pair of
7/8" B line made into a bridle with a devils claw in the middle. We have large
loops spliced at the ends that go over the horns on the bow howsers. I would
not want a 1/2' snubber breaking and snapping back at me when I'm on the bow
in a blow checking. And that's when you'll need to be up there checking when
the wind is howling. Let the weight of the chain absorb the shock. Look at the
tow boats as they even have a screen to protect the captain should a tow rope
part and whip back.
