T&T: Dinghy Recommendations

Wow, the dingy discussion is just like those we have about single vs twin 
engines or anchors.

Marin posted an excellent set of questions (e.g. how are you going to use 
the dingy) that should be the basis of selection.  In our case we bought a 
10.4 Avon sport boat with a plywood floor when we started cruising aboard 
our sailboat in 1991.  Since we traveled offshore and across oceans, I felt 
we needed to deflate and store the dingy.  After more then 12 years 
(including two in BC & Alaska) and 4 more years here in San Francisco, the 
Avon is still in great shape (despite the Oysters in the PNW) to include the 
plywood floorboards.  If we are to remain in SF Bay or at most travel back 
up to the PNW, I'll continue to use the Avon until it finally dies, but 
would likely replace it with some sort of RIB. In the meantime it fits the 
bill.
