T&T: brushless generator

It seems the only way I can run my a/c while underway, without installing a  
full generator, is to attach a small one to the current engine. I need your  
expertise to determine if I can do this with my Perkins 135hp diesel. I know  
that if this is possible, I can only run the a/c while the engine is on. Now, I 
 can't. Only plug in. I would appreciate the input. Obviously, not very  
knowlegeable in this area. Thanks in advance.
