I did this in the other direction 11 months ago.
The details were pretty much the same as those outlined by Richard.
However, it might reassure you to know that everyone involved in the
transaction, including officials on both sides of the border, was
unfailingly courteous and helpful. For $375, Marine Documentation
Services in Anacortes took care of a lot of the paperwork including
such things as sales tax exemptions and USCG de-registration. It was
money well spent, and you might want to ask what assistance they can
give you.
It's a process involving a lot of simple steps, which taken as a
whole, can appear quite daunting. Just do it by the numbers, don't
skip any, and all will be well. And, if it is a registered boat in
Canada, don't forget to de-register it, because the USCG will not be
able to document it there until you do.
