T&T: 1) Alternatives to 8D batteries are ? 2) How are the Odyssey Batteries?

The boat is equipped with a Heart 10 inverter/charger and a Link 2000.
It also has a StatPower 40 which was added later... why? Probably shouldn't
have been as the Heart was working fine. Tech thought the Heart would
overcharge the batteries and suggested we use the StatPower 40 when at dock.
Anyway I would like to replace the 8D's and appriceate all the comments and
suggestions. The 8d's were on the vessel when we got it and have worked
fine. The boat is seldom at anchor and operating on batteries alone so the
"house" power has not become an issue. However I think it should be
addressed with the upgrade.
I'm checking out the Royal Modules. Not sure yet if they are deep cycle or
not.
I understand that the Odyssey batteries may be almost completely
discharged... if not completely. I do like the sealed battery idea but
wonder if there are other issues.
Thanks for the help folks.
