T&T: Cape Canaveral local knowledge?

Thanks to all who gave me anchorage info about Hilton Head. We waited one
more day in Charleston and took off with nice, long-period waves yesterday.
Thankfully we didn't need to pull into the Hilton Head area because of
weather. I'll add the suggestions given to me to ActiveCaptain to document
the anchorages.
We made it to the inlet at Fernandina Beach by sunrise and decided to keep
on going. Another overnight will bring us to Cape Canaveral by pre-dawn.
We are staying at Cape Marina there (getting mail and last minute things
before jumping to the Bahamas).
Since we're getting to the area before dawn, I'd like to anchor for a few
hours until the marina opens. The marina told me that you can't anchor out
by the inlet. This doesn't make sense to the south. The north is a
protected zone because of NASA, I assume. You obviously can't anchor *IN*
the inlet channel.
I've already slowed down and don't want the engines to go any slower for an
extended period of time. Are you allowed to anchor by the inlet or is
there a better place? Can anyone provide a suggested lat/lon for anchoring
there for a few hours?
I made a few video's of our offshore passage including a view of what it's
like at night. Check out the blog to view them...
We're finally in shorts and sunscreen!
