T&T: New topic, tornados

I've been in the tornado alley all my life. It's not really something you
think about until the danger is imminent. The problem is, the warnings are
so frequent, that they have become meaningless. We get tornado watches and
warnings every time there's a thunderstorm...which is almost daily March
through June...and every other day in the summer...and all fall long...and
at least every couple weeks in the winter.

I do not underestimate the impact and power of these storms. I've seen the
devastation first hand...a career in my former life was to get in front of
big ugly weather systems with my truck full of tools and supplies, and then
start the clean up (electrical grid wise) as soon as we could see damage.

We had an F5 take out a town here....and I kid you not...the foundations of
the homes were stripped clean...except for a couple. Those were _GONE_.
There was a stretch of asphalt road that had been ripped from its bed and
flipped over, 20 yards away. Even ditches and shallow underground were not
saving against the direct impact. There was nowhere to hide if you were in
the path, and if you weren't, you were safe.

When you can see one coming, find what shelter you can...but the praying is
about as good an advance precaution as any. The truth of the matter
is...despite the spectacular nature of these storms...and not discounting
the Alabama tragedy in any way....but the likelihood of direct injury from
one of these storms is not something that should inspire a lot of worry.

The odds are in your favor. Except when they aren't.

Personally, having lived through a couple and seen many, many more from a
distance...

Well, I go outside, shake my fist, and yell, "Bring it!"

OK, the whistle subject has been beaten into submission, how about a
discussion about what do when in your boat during a tornado warning or an
actual
tornado is imminent. Especially at anchor. We put on lifejackets and say
some
spiritual words, what does the group suggest?
