This is actually called the Mystical Grocery Store Effect (MGSE) . It is a
cosmic occurrence which conspires to rob you of your precious time.
It's like when you get in the shortest grocery checkout line and the lady in
front of you is $.23 short and insists on emptying her handbag on the counter
so find the extra change. In extremely egregious instances, she won't accept
the needed $.23 from you or any other patrons, preferring instead to try and
maintain her dignity by finding the errant change herself. Less serious cases
of MGSE occur when someone attempts to pay for their purchases with a check
from within the CASH ONLY line...or get in the TEN ITEMS OR LESS line with 15
items. (Guess where I went yesterday)
A very rare variant of MGSE is when the guy in front of your has to search for
change in the back seat of his car while in the toll booth. Some scientists
think that the Bermuda Triangle is really a MGSE phenomenon.
As to contrary wind and currents, get used to it! Doo-Doo occurs.
