John:
I posted a message a few weeks ago asking for advice on a replacement for
an old circulating fan. A couple of people touted the Endless Breeze, a 12
volt 14" box fan. I got one and it is great and a keeper except not really
a replacement for the old one. I was about to get a Hella even though they
don't put out a lot of air when I saw and fell in love with the Caframo Bora.
To make a long story short I am on my 4th one in two weeks. The first one
may have been my fault because unlike other 12 volt fans that run backwards
if the polarity is reversed, the Bora just does not run. The other three
all had problems out of the box and West cheerfully replaced them each
time. The last two would run but in the middle of the night all hell would
break loose. I finally figured out that the fan was loose on the shaft. I
called Caframo today to ask what method should I use to try and secure the
blade to the shaft.
They told me that this fan is a new item and they discovered this issue on
Friday and had recalled all the fans they had shipped. They are in the
process of shipping out new ones. They offered and I accepted to ship me a
updated unit free of charge if I promised to destroy the old one.
I would not have put up with all of this except that this fan fits exactly
where I want it and performs well.
