ROCHESTER HOME OF KODAK.

And the beautiful Rochester Yacht Club, at which we are staying, lucky us.
Pool, tennis, protected dockage, drinks, and fine dining.

It's Sunday and the weekend boaters are out and about. Tomorrow the lake will
quiet down and be all ours again. The weather has held and we are about mid
Lake Ontario on the southern US shore. Our short goal is Niagara on the lake
and the Shaw festival, again. Something need revisiting. The "plan" is for a
clockwise round the lake trip before heading up the Trent Severn waterway. And on
the return leg, finish the circle with the Canadian North East shore and the
1000 islands. We did get to a new "been ther done that" port added to our list
today, Irondequoit, NY I had it marked on the cruising guide as "marginal"
and it truly proved to be, in 2000 the channel was dug to 10', in 2007 it was 4'
3" going in, (we hit) and 3' 8" on the way out we hit multiple times. Hugging
the rock jetty to the West is the answer and will pass 5' of water, we found
out too late. No damage, soft sand and dead slow speed and nibril propellers
saved us yet again. According to "Great La, kes Boating" June 07, the US army
core of engineers does not have the money to dredge small recreational ports on
the Great Lakes this year. I wonder where the money went, Afghanistan? Iraq?
We are now sitting pretty at the Niagara on the Lake sailing clubs dock, we
will be here for about four days. "Life is great".

Regards,
Capt. James Clausen, MV Summer School
Cruising the Lake Ontario, Rideau Canal, Trent Severn Canal,
St. Lawrence Seaway, and Georgian Bay, the Summer of 2007
