I an going to build a hookah dive system and I saw this
Hitachi ec79 oil free 6 gallon pancake air compressor. I know that
you need a compressor that has teflon rings. How do you know if that
compressor (ec79) has teflon rings. and is it the right size to do
basic boat underwater service? (endsnip)
I bought a small Senco (basic cheap compresssor with their name put
on it) oiless unit to use for just this thing. I watched all the
divers in the area that clean boat bottoms and such, and picked their
brains to know what to get. Basically it apears that any oiless
compressor will have the teflon rings. (I was in the cabinet business
for 25 years and every oiless compressor I ever had, and that was a
bunch, were teflon rings) For the hookah I went to a local dive shop
and bought a second stage regulator. I told him what I was going to
use it for, and he adjusted the spring in the regulator for the air
pressure I wanted, about 125 lbs. I was told that you can get a
pretty good filter that will do what you need it to do by by getting
a filter at a hobby shop that is used for small detail type paint
guns. I haven't got the filter just yet.
Just my experience so far. YMMV of course!
By the way, I am a certified PADI advanced open water diver with
several years of dive experience. Not shure I would try this without
dive training!
