T&T: Making a radar mast

I am going to make a radar mast for my boat. I need ideas and
recommendations. I have found some pictures and generally know I want it to
be about 5' tall, and raked about 20% rearward. I want to mount the radome,
the all around light, the gps pod and maybe a remote operated spot light.
I know that the radome has to be level, not blocked to create a blind spot
(some are blocked in the rear by the mast?) and height is good.
Can you add to this?
Also I am not sure about the material to make the mast...I have a round
tapered aluminum pole (3" to 5") that I can use along with some plate
material...I can fabricate the metal and have a welder weld it. Another
method could be using the blue foam to make a mold and laying up fiberglass.
Next, it has to pivot as I need the height when towing the boat.

All help on or off the list is appreciated.
