John -
Be sure to keep well clear of "Heart's Desire," a green sailboat which is
permanently moored the middle and deepest part of this small anchorage. The
live-aboard owner will come out any complain of you get too close. I looked the
boat name up and it doesn't appear to be documented, nor does it have NJ
registration numbers, so if he gives you too much guff, you might mention that. I
told him he didn't have to worry - I wouldn't hit his boat, and he finally
disappeared below.
BTW we draw 7.5 feet and have had no problems there at low water.
Barnegat Light can be very beautiful, esp at sunrise - but we second the
opinion on the inlet being treacherous in 4 feet plus - and there's a big breach
in the north jetty - resist the temptation to follow the locals through it
when heading out!
Regards,
John

Inlet offers a stop mid way between AC and
Manesquan...it is NOT the inlet to attempt in anything
over 4 ft seas....without surfing in....but once past
the lighthouse there is an anchorage essenitally due
South of the channel (Oyster Creek)
It is a dead end...but you will see both head boats
and long liners who draw much more than 4 ft...the
anchorage just north of our old LBI marina at High Bar
Harbor....
The anchorage is called Miers Hole ...just keep
left of the transition buoy....as you pass the
lighthouse....fair winds....
