T&T: GFI Shore Receptacle tripping

I have run into a new problem to solve. I have tried to connect to a 20 amp
shore power duplex receptacle that is GFI. When I switch on the main breaker
in the boat the GFI trips even if all individual breakers on the AC side are
off. My boat is an older (1978) boat and I have been told that "older boats
are just wired that way". I don't particularly like that explanation so I am
hoping someone can give me a hint on how to solve this. I thought about
lifting the ground in my 20-30 adapter but I am not sure that is a good
solution.

I am concerned since I am on the Erie canal and understand that the
Trent-Severn has this type power as well.

Any ideas?
