T&T: 10 KW Northern Lights Genset.. And the horizontal oil filter.

Well, I'm now on my 3rd oil change and I cannot understand for the
life of me why there oil filter is situated in a Horizontal
position. My current dance I use to change is drain the oil and then
get a oversized Freezer bag which I put up against the motor as tight
as possible. This then allows me to catch as much oil before it gets
down low to the oil absorbing diaper then I get to clean the motor up.

Also because of it being horizontal it minimizes any oil if any that
I can put in the filter before spinning it back on. I'm sorry I
rebuilt engines as a kid and was always taught to prime the oil
filter and it bugs me. Has anyone run into this issue and thought of
a answer to this??? By the way my 8 kw Northern Lights Genset had
the oil-filter in a normal and vertical position.

Thanks ahead of time for any ideas..
