T&T: Albemarle Sound Crossing

We stayed safely tied to the dock at the Alligator River Marina as the wind
blew 20+ today.
I am going to try crossing Albemarle Sound if the weather improves in the
morning (Wed)
Local knowledge request. Is it safe/ feasible to cut the corner from my
location at the bridge straight across to the mouth of the Pasquotank River?
We're taking the Dismal Swam route.
