T&T: Downeast hull

Semi-displacement hulls are inefficient by design....it is a compromise. A planing hull is more efficient because it provides more lifting surface area. The compromise is that you get a more seaworthy boat(ride) because it has a tendency to go through the weather(waves) versus over them which causes discomfort and pounding. Speed actually adds to their stability in that the lifting portion of the boat(stern) along with the bow steering keeps the boat going pretty darn straight and not much roll. A planing boat will almost always be more stable than a boat going displacment speeds. To be quite honest with y'all, I am extemely impressed with the ride the Mainship Pilot provides. And like someone said, I don't think the boat has staying power with us simply because it does not have much space. It is all cockpit with a 10'3" beam. It is a wonderful day boat.

  Trawer on,
  John
