Since we are on the topic of tides, can someone tell me how/why the Panama
region experiences tides of 20 feet or more?  I understand how we have 12 to
20 foot tides in the Pacific NW and Alaska, but I thought as you approach
the equator a foot or two was considered normal.   Why or how is it that
Panama has a 20 foot tidal range?
