I have some photos in a book at home showing American Marine's
Kowloon plant when it was going full-bore. Because of the quality of
the boats, I guess I expected their manufacturing facilities to be on
the same par. I'm sure the relatively new Malaysia plant is very nice
and modern. I've never seen pictures of the Singapore plant. But
the Kowloon plant was hideous. In its heyday, it looked like a long-
abandoned cannery in SE Alaska. The photo of the water-side of the
plant is amazing-- there's a row of rusting, paint-peeling corrugated
metal sheds with "American Marine" in fading and peeling paint over
the center door, and inside the open bays at the top of the sets of
rails going down into the water are all these gleaming varnished
transoms with a pristine lineup of beautiful new boats at the dock in
the foreground. Quite a contrast....
