This is a central vac unit made for RVs. Installed the predecessor to this
one 4 years ago and is still going strong. To get the dog and cat hair, I
cannibalized and modified the beater bar attachment from a Kenmore canister
vacuum that had other issues - it plugs into the AC system via a separate
cord. The vacuum it self has a 30' hose that reaches anywhere on the boat
and was small enough to find a permanent mounting location in the center of
the boat. You do need AC on the boat either via a inverter or genset to make
these work. You should also consult a marine electrician to make sure the
ground wire isn't connected to the neutral on appliances like these.

Subject: T&T: Cruising friendly vacuum cleaners
We have a dog, we have a boat, we have rugs on the boat. We need to add one
more element to make this a happy family, and that is a vacuum cleaner that
will actually take care of the dog hair in the rugs. We have the 15.6 volt
cordless Euro-Pro Shark with the rug attachment. It does a nice job, but it
runs out of battery before we run out of dog hair on the rugs. Besides, I
don't like vacuuming while on my knees.
What we'd really like is a very small, easily stored, corded vacuum cleaner
that really sucks.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
