This has always worked for me. At the end of each season:
1.) add an appropriate amount of Stabil to the gas tank based on a guess of
how much gas is left in the tank,
2.) shake, don't stir, the tank,
3.) run the outboard with tank attached for about 10 minutes in (a tub of)
fresh water,
4.) with the engine running disconnect the gas line from the outboard,
5.) in a couple of minutes the engine will stop from fuel starvation.
Come next Spring, the outboard has always started with one, at most two,
pulls.
