I have a boat hook with an 8' long handle. It makes retreving the mooring 
painter easier from our 6' bow. The handle is painted with stripes spaced one 
foot apart to serve as an occasional depthfinder in shallow anchorages. Besides, 
who would steal a striped boothook?
