they aint cheap for sure, but its a must have.

funny, shaw and tenney says:
"The tapered handle is designed so the boat hook should float upright
if dropped overboard. We're often asked "how do you know it will float
upright?" We dropped twelve Ash boat hooks off the end of the dock to
find out. Nine floated upright nicely, two floated on their sides, and
one went straight to the bottom. The density of wood, no guarantee but
darn good odds! "

darn. I had a floater that turned into a sinker. :)
