T&T: Anchoring and anchor watch

This is interesting. One is a technical approach using the GPS to help watch
the boat. Then there is Swan Song's more conventional method of using a
shore references. (A palm tree and a goat if I recall, that was funny :) Of
course that is the way we all did it before GPS.
But when its dark and starts to blow, those visual references may be hard to
see. When you really need to see your reference points, such as in a real
squall, my experience is that you can't see anything.
Now I use the plotter and set it close enough so that it will go off if the
boat swings significantly to a new heading. If the wind/tide changes I would
prefer to get up and check it out, even if the anchor is still firmly set.
But I would not want to discourage Jeffrey from his task, because if he can
detect the anchor moving that is more important than the boat swinging.
Until he can do that I will get up when it swings. Go for it Jeff.
