T&T: Different Insurance Question

Hi All:

We have beat up insurance here a bit lately, but I have a different
question.........

I will be leaving Lake Erie in August for a trip to the Bahamas. Getting
insurance in Lake Erie is quick and easy, and, maybe, even inexpensive,
completely unlike the challenges faced in the South.

My current carrier (Zurich) said they may extend coverage for the trip,
but they won't tell me until 30 days prior to the date I plan on
leaving. Also won't tell me the cost.

Scratch them, I can't wait until the last minute.

State Farm in their ultimate wisdom will write me with a Navigation
Territory of the entire US and Canada, and, up to 75 miles offshore, for
a premium that would'nt keep a sailor in beer for very long.... but the
Bahamas are a No No (I know, by default they cover the near Bahamas.
Kinda stupid)

So, I guess my question is generally directed toward those individuals
who live, boat, sail outside of the "Danger Zone" as determined by the
insurance companies. How do you insure your boats for the vastly
different territories that you sail in when moving from Northern areas,
to southern areas, and over to the Bahamas, and, are only there
tempoarily, and do not live or permanatly berth your vessel in Florida ?

Thanks !!

Jeff
