The need to stand anchor watch depends on many factors, but if you are anchored outside the Colregs line, it would be prudent to stand watch - unless you are in a protected harbor that you perceive to be very safe.

A question. When you are anchoring out do you normally keep watch as
required by the coll regs or do you just tuck in for the night and hope
for the best? Does it depend on the circumstances - weather, number of
people on board etc. I was in an interesting discussion with friends
the other day and would be interested in the views of the members of the
list.
