I recently purchased a 9' hypalon Caribe RIB dinghy at a garage sale for
$50, one leak.  You could cut away the fiberglass bottom and transom,
leaving a very large, heavy duty fender which shuld last a long time.  Just
the thing for a larger trawler going through a lock system.  Maybe they
could leave it at the end of the canal for the next big boat coming through
the other way??
