Fred if you recall the comments regarding Vista were specifically
addressing the use aboard a vessel which is NOT connected to the internet
If in fact Vista requires frequent connection to the internet, it is not
suitable for isolated use without an internet connection.
Friends of mine had a computer crash while upcoast near Princess Luisa
Inlet. NDI required an internet connection in order to validdate the chart
re-validation. So despite them being able to restore the computer to working
they wer unable to get the chart programgoing because there is no internet
access from Princess Louisa Inlet.
Now it looks like Vista will also do the same. The programmers are simply
following directives from higher up in terms of providing security against
pirating software but it leaves boaters stuck.
Marine users are such a miniscule part of the overall market they ar4e not
going to accomodate us.
Much better to switch to an Mackintosh as Larry Z suggest.
