A photo is easier than a verbal explanation.  Assuming your e-mail  
address is valid, I'll send you a photo.  People don't like them  
because the mooring rings can get tangled in cleats (if the boat  
configuration allows this), and there is not much maneuvering room if  
the mooring is almost full (which they never are so I don't know how  
much of a problem this really is so far).  Plus since what you're  
coming alongside is a rope, not a dock, things can get moving around  
too much for some people.
