T&T: running a ups with an inverter

I'm guessing that he has an inverter/charger, and added the UPS to
cover the breaks when the inverter AC output switches between inverter
and shore power.
I suggest that rather than use a UPS on the inverter/charger output,
he add a separate small inverter specifically for the computer - the
ship's batteries should provide reliable power.
