Cognitive dissonance is a psychological term describing the uncomfortable
tension that may result from having two conflicting thoughts at the same time,
or
from engaging in behavior that conflicts with one's beliefs.
In simple terms, it can be the filtering of information that conflicts with
what one already believes, in an effort to ignore that information and
reinforce one's beliefs.
What was your definition?
Lee,
Don't be upset that other experienced boaters disagree with your strongly
held advocacy of a specific equipment type. Variety of choice makes boating so
interesting. Some of us like cruising, some like port to port runs, some like
single engines, some duals. Some like Fortress anchors, some even like Bruce
anchors. There are no absolutes in this sport other than keeping the topside
up
and the bottom side down.
Peace.
