Very true. However, when you start to narrow the parameters, there
are fewer right answers. When it comes to holding power, the Bruce's
design lets it down. Scaling a huge oil rig anchor down to a very
small size does not automatically mean the small version will possess
all the same characteristics of the huge one. Which is why the Bruce
is consistently at or near the bottom in holding power in every
anchor test I've ever seen.

Where high holding power is not a major concern, the Bruce's other
attributes can put it above other types of anchors. We were big
proponents of the Bruce until it's lack of holding power let us down
on several occasions. At that point, we decided that holding power
was a bigger factor in what we needed in an anchor than we had
originally supposed. So we began to search for an anchor that was
very high in holding power but also possessed similar quick setting
and re-setting properties to our Bruce. We found it, and the Bruce
is now propping a door open in our garage, a task for which I can
attest with no reservations or conditions it is absolutely superb :-)
