Bob,
I'll bet they changed the design of the anchor a bit and that's why it's a
bit different from the old one. If anything, chain should be slightly easier
to anchor than nylon...due to the catenary weight....but I'd doubt anybody
would normally notice much difference. And once it stretches tight, that
advantage largely disappears...
I have a Danforth Deepset hi Tensile (T4000) aboard and it does NOT set as
well as older traditional (low tech) ones....I believe the fluke angle is
slightly different relative to the old, the metal is stronger, but it does NOT
set as easily and can be annoying...in general, in soft mud, the larger the
fluke area the better the holding; in rocky bottoms, the reverse is often
true. When I can't get a Deepset plow to hold in soft stuff, I switch to the
Danforth; in hard or rocky bottoms or grassy conditions, the plow works when
the Danforth doesn't.....
