We have been silent readers over the last couple of years and have learned
much and enjoyed reviewing the posts on many topics. Ground tackle and
maintenance issues are of particular interest. Last weekend, while
winterizing the washdown pump, it occurred to me that our experience with
anchors may be of some interest to the group. We acquired Maia, our GB 42
about two years ago. Early-on we had consistent trouble setting the 45# CQR.
A timely report was published in C"BB
Practical SailorC"BB
-a review of
anchors in mud/sand conditions (typical Bay conditions). They strongly
recommended a new-comer-the C"BB
XYZC"BB
. We contacted Drago at
XYZanchor.com and purchased a 17# er-the delta/ray shape in very
unconventional, but made sense. Now we have the 12 and a 32# Extreme XYZ-we
have anchored in a variety of nasty conditions throughout the Chesapeake Bay,
and have never dragged. It fits our existing roller assemble and is quick to
set and sets solid every time. We believe that the fluke area is equivalent
to a 75# or greater delta or CQR, and because of the unique fluke and shank
design requires less scope. No connection-just very satisfied customers.
