T&T: LED bulbs

 I wonder how hard it would be to install another 
socket into a steaming light fixture. Then one 
could install 2 "Polar Star 40" bulbs and only 
spend about 90 bucks on the bulbs. Since they 
claim a single bulb will get a 2 mile visibility 
would this not easily get the 3 mile range 
required?
 Since the Polar Star lights are already Coast 
Guard approved for navigation light usage when 
installed in existing fixtures there should be no 
problem with this installation.

 Just another $0.02...
