Google shows the SR161 at $189 from several vendors. Some offer with free
shipping.
The Smart Radio can also be purchased direct form China both in the same
configuration and as a bare board "engine" for less. I was quoted well under
$75 ea qty 1000 about 6 months ago when I was contemplating making a small
portable tester for AIS signals for installers/technicians to use for
compliance checking of the AIS signal/data that the AIS transceiver
transmitter is putting out.
Project is way on the back burner but there is a big need for this test
gear, IMHO.
I believe the NASA AIS engine can also be obtained for under $200 if not
near the $150 mark. A couple of other China manufacturers will be steeping
into this market soon. Tho not nearly as big as the GPS market the unit
lends itself well to becoming an LSI chip and then it will be $10 in qty for
the chip which should yield $50 retail AIS receivers, IMHO.
So don't shoot me if you can't buy a receiver in the US for exactly
$150.......I'm not in the US ;-)
As always YMMV....
