My guess: The fuel burn at 8 to 10 knots is likely to give you around 1.5 to 2
NMPG. It takes a certain amount of HP to push a given boat at a given speed
and will be roughly similar for many modern four cycle diesel engines. Thats
a bit fast for a 39 ft boat.
If you want economy, you'll likely do better to cruise about 6 or so knots.
And if you are really fuel oriented, go for a single engine boat....Hull
speed: 1.2(sq root LWL) would suggest roughly 7.4 knots as hull speed....but
few "trawlers" are really that...most are hard chined ...so I'd stick with 6
