Did I miss something? I wasn't aware that a pleasure boater was required to
keep an "official" log
Ahoy Ken & List,
This is an interesting thread. I have been driving a car for about 60
years
now, traveled all across our country. Yet I never thought for one moment
to
record or log anything pertaining to the auto trip, be just down the road
for groceries or cross-country for a vacation.
The very first day that I bought my boat, I set up, my then very new
spreadsheet program called Visi calc turned Lotus 123. and entered everyday
the boat
has been underway. Everything that pertained to the trips was recorded.
Dates, From/To Locations, Time, Fuel, Weather, Guest, Etc, Blah, Ad
Nauseam.
The reason for my log keeping had nothing to do with any legality, it was
simply that it had been my dream to buy a boat, cruise the day lights out
of
it, and just treated it as an adventure. It took very little time to jot
each
item down and then entered it into the P/C. I started my journey back in
1990 as I trucked the boat from California to Texas, cruising the waterways
until 2004. Now, as I have been less active, I find myself lately
re-reading
the log and reliving the adventure.
Just another point of view...
Ciao, Capt Joe
