The installation Marin describes (below) is the way the RCM-80E was
installed on my boat when I purchased it in June. The PO over engineered
almost everything in the ER so I have a Racor 1000 between the RCI and the
pump. The discharge of the pump goes back to the tanks.

John, I had cause to call RCI this afternoon and had a very pleasant
experience. I suggest you give them a call at 800-868-2088 and discuss all
your concerns.

I'm thinking I raised an issue that isn't one..... I made my comment based
on a turbine or centrifugal filter in the fuel line to the engine.
But having read your original post again, I see you are considering
installing a fuel polishing system, not additional filtration in the fuel
lines to your engines. As I understand them, polishing systems are fuel
circulation systems that have nothing to do with the engine(s).
You pull fuel from a tank, run it through the polishing filter, and send it
back to the tank or to another tank in your setup. Since these systems have
their own pump, the fuel flow of your engines would be irrelevant I would
think. You can install however powerful a pump you need in your polishing
system to achieve whatever flow rate the filter or purifier requires. So if
what I just wrote is correct, I apologize for perhaps making you worry about
something you don't need to worry about.
