T&T: Filter question

Marin, you zeroed in on one of the issues I've still to come to grips
with. As I learn more I will share with the list. This will be a winter
project, so I have time to line up the ducks. :-) I have two 135
Perkins and, at the moment, I don't have a clue about input volume and
returned flow for my engines and what an additional pump would do. I'm
burning about 4 GPH. What goes back to the tank is a mystery! The unit
(FP -80) will handle 60 GPH. Don't know how this fits into the overall
system design. The FP-80 is about $390.
One of the other issues is agitation in the tank caused by a high through
put and the expected lack of this feature with the RCI unit, and do I
need it! I need a sit down with someone with more experience than I have
before I am comfortable with this approach. My questions multiple by the
day and I am enjoying all the feed back I've gotten both on and off
list. All have been helpful.

The RCI unit does not have a filter element!
One thing to keep in mind is the fuel flow pulled by your engine.
According to the RCI website, their purifier uses centrifugal force as
part of the purification process. Some engines--- the Ford Lehman 120
for one--- use so little fuel that it's debatable whether the flow rate
is enough to set up a spinning action in a filter like the Racor turbine
series. (Racor says it is, American Diesel says it isn't.) If you
stated what kind of engine(s) your boat has I missed it, but it might be
a good idea to make sure that it/they will be pulling enough fuel
through the line(s) to make the RCI process work properly. If not, then
a filter system that doesn't depend on flow speed--- and I assume an
element system like the Gulf Coast does not--- might be a better
solution.
