I think replacing the engine is an extreme cure. Replacement pad filters  are 
available from North Coast Jersey and American Marine for about 10.00 each.  
You could also use a solvent like paint thinner to clean the oil soaked 
filters.  The vent atop of the valve cover is to allow excess oil mist to go to the 
air  filter and be reabsorbed partially back into the engine without harm. The 
best  solution in my opinion is to regularly change the foam filter with each
