Ken,

I replaced my two part units with a self contained Mermaid unit. Couldn't be happier. The price was right and I had no problem doing the install myself. I did call Mermaid a couple of times to clarify the instructions, but other than that the installation was easy. The outside temperture here in Lake Guntersville on the Tennessee River has been right at the 100F mark. The water temperture is 93.5 here in the marina. My unit has been keeping the boat at a maximum of 84F, considering that the boat really has no insulation at all, I find that pretty amazing.

The unit doesn't seem to make any more noise than the air handler did of the old system.

No connection with Mermaid, just a happy, cool, customer.

<SNIP>.......Had one of our air conditioners checked today, and was told that it needed a
new compressor. The unit is a Marine Air System MTC-X 1989 vintage. Does
anybody have knowledge of these units? I will be getting a 2nd opinion, but
in the meantime looking for help. If I do have to replace the compressor
would it be advisable to replace new compressor only or should I replace the
entire unit,
