I would highly recommend the Mermaid 5500, a new unit for them that is 
performing exceptionally well in the charter boats here.  I just 
replaced the 12,000 BTU 30 year old unit in my cabin with one and it 
works better and is practically silent.  My cabin is 15.5 x 15.0 x 7.2 
with a head that is 8.0 x 5 x 7.2; I'd figure the cubic area but the 
calc is upstairs.  The fan is automatically variable speed.  My 
mechanic has told me it has a larger compressor, I think the same one 
as they use in the 6500.  It will take my cabin from 86 degrees down to 
77 in about 45 minutes and hold it there with the compressor running 
about 60% of the time.
