If you do go with a new unit, I'd highly recommend Mermaid. Very good units,
well built (SS drip pan and other goodies), and way less expensive than the
"big" names. I replaced my saloon / PH unit with one of their 16K units
about 6 years ago, and it's run quietly and perfectly ever since, in both
heat and cool modes. I live in the Galveston Bay area, so it really gets a
workout (nearing 100 degrees today). They have a five year warranty as well.
The only downside I can see is that if you need warranty service, you have
to return it to the factory, but any tech should be able to service it. Of
course, if it never breaks down....
