Friday, generator ran fine and powered everything. Saturday, it started
and

ran, but no power.

It appears to be putting out only 18 volts.

Any ideas

on where to look or what to check next?

I'm guessing that you have a unit with the 300-1540 regulator board, if
so, see if the small breaker on the control box is tripped. If it is
then check continuity thru the exciter stator, if memory serves, it
should be about 12 ohms. Resistance to ground should be at least 1 meg.
If all is well then run the unit and check for voltage at F+ and F- on
the board. If no output, you need a new one. The last piece of the
puzzle are the diode packs on the rotor, very easy to check and replace.
The reason for the checks is that it sounds like you are only getting
residual output from the back end. These are the most common failure
points, I'll stay away from the choke and the transformer in the box for
now , as they rarely fail.

Harris
